Come fall, the fashion world is already abuzz with next spring’s designs. But thankfully, we went cover-to-cover with the big September issues and we studied the trends for this most enchanting season. So whether you’re looking for a simple new accessory, a major wardrobe addition, or just some new eyeliner, here’s your fresh start:
Military jackets
The perfect fall topper, a military jacket reeks style. And we do mean Army green too. If it feels too masculine, pop a lush velvet flower on the lapel for feminine styling. Tighten the waist chords for curvy definition too. The snaps and grommets make it look sharp but not tough. Old Navy has some great authentic looking ones right now.
Boots, boots, boots
Over-the-knee boots are subtly sexy and look great with a chunky heel in distressed maple-toned leather. Tuck your jeans inside and hold them down with boot straps made for the job. But don’t forget the little black dress of footwear: the flat black boot which does justice to cute preppy skirts and knit dresses. Ankle boots and booties keep it weekend casual with rolled jeans. Elasticized boot straps at Dress Barn. Boots, everywhere and all price points.
Capes
If you’re in the market for a coat this season, try a cape. Its charming shape covers beautifully and fits over even the bulkiest sweaters. Find one in a pretty earth or orchard tone to mimic the lush landscape. Don’t discount them because Granny wore them – they’re really romantic now and on-trend.
Cozy sweaters
Sweater days are at our doorstep and this fall the enduring trend is cashmere. The difference is that the shapes have changed. Blankets have seemly been swept off beds into witty loose and floaty styles. Find sumptuous ease in poncho-like boxy silhouettes. Look for a blend of hues in stripes with or without fringe and wooden buttons. The shape is unique but the feel is sophisticated and plush. Macy’s
Trinkets
We still love our statement necklaces but the trend is now in layering. Tender gold necklaces in long links of three sparkle in a more subdued way. Multiple twinkling bracelets show off dainty wrists and catch the golden waning sunlight. Shop local boutiques for really distinctive pieces.
Eyeliner
Autumn just doesn’t seem to exist without the beautifully lined cat eye. There are so many eyeliners to choose from but for a real tattooed look, we love Kat Von D Lightening Liner. This pen has a great grip and even a novice can get Bridget Bardot’s sultry look. Sephora.
Let the designers work on next spring. We’re going to revel in nature’s colorful party and look gorgeous while we do it!
