Worcester Adds 2,000 Jobs in February

The City of Worcester added 2,000 jobs in the month of February and 4,800 jobs over the year, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. 

Worcester is one of seven areas of the state that recorded job gains and is among four areas that recorded the largest job gains. 

The other areas are Boston-Cambridge-Newton, Springfield, and Peabody-Salem-Beverly areas. 

Across the State

Overall, local unemployment rates increased in 14 labor market areas, decreased in one and remained the same in nine areas during the month of February.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the statewide-unadjusted unemployment rate for February was 4.0 percent.

Last week, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.5 percent in the month of February. 

When it comes to jobs, the statewide seasonally adjusted jobs estimate showed a 13,700 job gain in February, and an over-the-year gain of 39,100 jobs.
