UMass Memorial Medical Center was named one of the top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the country by Truven Health Analytics.
“The UMass Memorial Heart and Vascular Center has a proven track record of superior results, and we have the region’s most extensive resources for managing all types of heart and vascular disease. We demand excellence in everything we do. It’s why our Medical Center is among the best hospitals in New England for heart attack survival and one of the top heart programs nationwide for coronary artery bypass and aortic valve surgery,” said John Keaney, MD, medical director of the Heart and Vascular Center, and chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
This is the 18th year of the study which singles out 50 hospitals that achieved superior clinical, operational and financial performance in cardiovascular care.
UMass Memorial Medical Center has previously received numerous recognitions and accolades from organizations such as US News and World Report, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Heart Association, Consumer Reports and Becker’s Hospital Review.
Determining the Top 50
To determine the 50 top U.S. hospitals for heart care, Truven Health researchers analyzed Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, Medicare cost reports, and the Hospital Compare dataset published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The study, and subsequent analysis of the positive variances these leading cardiovascular service hospitals show, indicate an opportunity for a broader national impact for cardiovascular patients, should these results be replicated.
That analysis is based on the Medicare patients included in this study. If the same standards were applied to all inpatients, the impact would be even greater.
