In an area where road construction is a more common sight than birds in the sky, Central Massachusetts is ready to welcome new stores, events, restaurants, art, and activities.

Worcester’s restaurant and bar scene will soon adopt two major chains, a store just opened that celebrates everything Worcester, and two new hotels hope to attract Worcester’s visitors to stay a little longer.

Below, we list 15 things that are worth checking out and keeping an eye out for.

  • Hooters

    Hooters of Shrewsbury will offer All You Can Eat Wings - twice every week (Tuesday Traditional, Thursday Boneless) when it opens later on this Fall.

    The restaurant will begin accepting applications for employment on October 5. 

    Hooters will be opening in the former Chili's on Rt. 9. 

     
  • Carewell Urgent Care

    As one of six new locations, CareWell Urgent Care will be opening a Worcester site on Greenwood Street. 

    CareWell Urgent Care is healthcare, available when you need it, without an appointment. 

    CareWell specializes in non-life-threatening injuries when you want fast treatment, need x-rays or an EKG.

  • Something's Brewing

    Wormtown Brewery and Central MA's best chefs from ten different restaurants are hosting 'Something's Brewing in Worcester' - a night full of food, music and fundraising. 

    The Hanover Theatre will host the event that will benefit ‘No Kid Hungry’ –  a campaign to end childhood hunger in America by connecting kids in need to nutritious food and teach families how to prepare healthy meals.

  • Mission Combat LaserTag

    Raining out? No problem. At the soon-to-open Mission Combat, there's plenty of room to run around. Get your friends together and take them on in the best laser tag in the area.

    Mission Combat will open in the Factory of Terror Entertainment Complex at 344 Franklin Street in Worcester.

  • USRowing Championships

    USRowing has announced that the 2016 USRowing Masters National Championships will be held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. The event is scheduled for August 18-21 and is hosted by Destination Worcester and Quinsigamond Rowing Association. 

    The championships will feature athletes 21 and older competeing for national titles in 202 categories.

    “Worcester’s history of hosting regattas of high caliber and importance promises to be a great experience for the Masters rowing community,” said USRowing Events Manager A.J. Dominique. “We expect to have the nearby Boston rowing community make a strong showing and possibly break the record set in Camden.” 

     
  • Veiled Aleppo

    A new exhbition has arrived at the Worcester Art Museum and will run from now until June 5, 2016.

    Veiled Aleppo examines the effects of the Syrian Civil War in Aleppo and Damascus.

    WAM - "Sheets line the devastated streets of Aleppo, Syria, acting as shields to obscure Free Syrian Army soldiers from the view of Bashar al-Assad's security force snipers. Before the war, these sheets served a very different purpose as residents used them for privacy or to protect their homes from harsh weather. This exhibition features the work of Milan-based photojournalist Franco Pagetti, who worked in Aleppo at the start of the Syrian civil war."

  • BBC Worcester

    A double dose of new is on its way to Shrewsbury Street. The British Beer Company will take over at the former Urban/Coral Seafood location and will mark one of the few chain restaurants in the area.

    The BBC is planed to open later this year and will be a welcome addition to Shrewsbury Street's already thriving nightlife.

  • Washington Square Hilton

    Plans for a new Hilton hotel to be buitl on Washington Square have been finalized. The hotel will be across the rotary from Union Station on the land that is now occupied by the former home of KJ Baaron's.

    The hotel will be an extended stay hotel. It will feature 120 rooms (including six or seven handicap accessible rooms), 120 parking spaces, a large fitness center and a pool. There will be no restaurant in the hotel but it will offer breakfast and light hors d'oeuvres. Each hotel room will have a small kitchen area with a convection oven. There will be two meeting rooms that hold 25 people each. 

     
  • Market 32

    The town of Sutton and Rt. 146 will serve as the home for the ever built from the ground up Market 32 by Price Chopper.

    Price Chopper promises that Market 32 will "modernize and enhance the shopping experience."

    The new store will have expanded food service options, an enhanced product mix and a re-emphasis on customer service.

    It is set to open soon.

  • Wicked Wings

    Located on West Boylston Street, Wicked Wings Co. is attempting to change the "wing game" in Worcester.

    Wicked Wings opened earlier this month to rave reviews. If you're looking for a place with great wings and cold beer - this could be the spot for you.

  • Kretschmann Oktoberfest Celebration

    KBC Brewery & Beer Garden is hosting its 1st Annual Oktoberfest celebration with German style food, KBC's own craft-brewed Festbier, games, and live music.

    The celebration will include craftmaking, naming the Oktoberfest Mayor, a barrel race, a relay race and much more!

    KBC is encouraging patrons to dress in traditional Oktoberfest costume or bavarian colors (blue, white, and gold) for the event!

  • Worcester Wares

    Everything you love about Worcester all in one place? Perfect.

    Last month, Worcester Wares opened up inside the DCU Center on Foster Street (Door 22).

    All of the products sold at Worcester Wares are designed by owner Jessica Walsh - who says she fell in love with Worcester when she moved here in 2007 -, and other local artists.
