Every Friday, GoLocal Worcester will examine who is rising and who is falling in Worcester and Central Massachusetts’ politics, education, business and sports.

This week's Who's Hot and Who's Not in Worcester? identifies two professional sports teams, business award winners, local schools doing making the city proud, the head of the school district, and an outspoken city councilor.

The one thing to remember is that this list could flip-flop by next week. It's in Worcester's hands.

    Charlie Baker

    The Republican Governor is the most popular chief executive in the country. A recent poll of all the Governors in the U.S. found Baker to be the most popular at 74% approval.

    The South High Principal seems to be most everyone’s favorite to replace Melinda Boone. The is an organized effort including a petition to support her appointment.

    The Worcester School Committee has decided to hire a consultant and conduct a full search.

    FBI

    The FBI is hot for capturing James Morales quickly and efficiently. The alleged child rapist was a brazen thief who raided the Army Reserve Center. He stole 16 guns and reportedly sold them on the illegal market to buyers that may have had the worst intentions.

    Donald Trump 

    In Massachusetts, it is a rare that a candidate can turnout a crowd of greater than 10,000. His detractors raise questions about his policies and claims, but no one can take away the fact he leads the GOP polls in most every state and has only spent a fraction of the other candidates.

    Nichols College Men’s Ice Hockey Team

    The team is currently ranked No. 15 in both the d3hockey.com and USCHO Division III Men’s Polls.

    The Bison – who are appearing in both polls for the first time this season – ran their win streak to six with a 2-1 win at Curry College on Saturday afternoon. 

    The Bison (6-1-0, 5-0-0 ECAC Northeast) return to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Worcester State in the Worcester City Shootout at Buffone Arena.

     HOT: Boston Bruins

    The B’s are the hottest team in the NHL. They have come along way the season despite injuries and a re-build. They are now 6th in the Eastern Conference.

    WXLO, The Pike + WORC FM

    Their parent company, Cumulus which is the second largest radio group in the United States, has lost over 90% of their stock value and is now trading around $0.25 per share. The company is expected to declare bankruptcy in the next couple of months according to media experts.

    The Fire Sweetpea

    Sunday night's fire at the Sweetpea Friends of Rutland Animals Inc. in Paxton which  killed 7 dogs and 29 cats was a sad occurance, what is good news is the community response.
