MA State Police to Have Strong Presence Over Memorial Day Weekend

The Massachusetts State Police will be adding several traffic encforcement operations to their regular road patrols during Memorial Day Weekend. The supplemental additions include three sobreity checkpoints, extra patrols, and strong presence at state parks, beaches and reservations.

State troopers will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Worcester County on Saturday night. The checkpoints purpose is to reduce crashes by identifying impaired operators. Exact locations of the checkpoints will not be released before they begin.

MA State Police are presently in the middle of their "Click It or Ticket" campaign to help enforce the state's seatbelt laws. This campaign is funded by grants provided by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and utlized by the state Executive Office of Public Safety to fund extra road patrols for state and local police departments.

Throughout the long weekend, State Police will roll several extra patrols per troop per day, split up among the three daily shifts.

Memorial Day also marks the beginning of extra high-visibility patrols at state-run urban parks and beaches in Greater Boston, Northeastern Massachusetts and Southeastern Massachusetts.
