Man Dead After Being Hit by Jeep in Worcester

A man was pronounced dead after being struck by a Jeep in the area of Lincoln Street early Thursday morning.
The man was 58-years-old.
No citations have been issued at this time as the investigation is in the early stages, this could change as the investigation moves forward.
The Incident
On Thursday, October 25, at approximately 6:14 a.m., Worcester Police responded to 580 Lincoln Street for a reported MV and pedestrian accident. Arriving officers saw members of the Worcester Fire Department performing emergency CPR on the 58-year-old male pedestrian. Worcester EMS arrived and quickly transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital.
Due to the serious nature of this incident, the Worcester Police Crash Reconstruction Unit was called in to take over the investigation. Recon investigators mapped out the crash scene and gathered evidence.
The driver of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee remained at the scene while investigators conducted their investigation. The driver, a Shrewsbury resident, went to police headquarters and spoke with investigators.
Investigators were notified that the pedestrian passed away due to his injuries and pronounced deceased at 6:46 a.m. by a Trauma Room doctor.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Jeep was travelling west on Lincoln Street, by the area of 580 Lincoln Street. At this location the pedestrian attempted to cross Lincoln Street from the south side heading towards the north side. The Jeep struck the pedestrian with the front right side bumper. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.
Investigators towed the Jeep from the scene and secured it at police headquarters. A full mechanical inspection will be conducted to determine if any mechanical deficiencies were a contributing factor leading up to the collision.
