Two Injured Following Car Crash in Worcester

Two people were sent to the hospital following a two car crash in the area of Heywood Street. 

This investigation remains active. At this time there have been no citations issued but that may change as the investigation moves forward.

The Incident 

On Monday, November 13, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Worcester Police responded to a two car accident in the area of 43 Heywood Street. Upon the officers arrival they saw that a 2000 Mazda Pick-up truck had collided with a 2010 Mercedes Benz SUV. Both cars received extensive damage and the driver of the Mazda appeared to have a serious head injury and was semi-conscious at the scene.

Due to the serious nature of the crash and the potential serious injury to the Mazda operator, the WPD Crash Reconstruction Unit was called in to take over the investigation.

Upon arrival, Recon Investigators detoured traffic while the scene was photographed and processed for evidence. Witnesses were interviewed. Investigators also went to the hospital to check on the operators of the Mazda and the Mercedes.

The Investigation

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Mazda was being driven by an 18-year-old man west on Heywood Street. The Mazda crossed over into the opposite lane at an angle and struck the front of the Mercedes SUV. The Mercedes was being operated by a 23-year-old woman.

The Mazda driver was suffering from a head injury while the Mercedes driver was complaining of neck pain. Both were transported to a local hospital.

Investigators at the hospital were told that the Mazda driver has improved since his arrival and is now considered to be in good condition. The Mercedes driver is also in good condition and will be released after receiving some treatment.

The vehicles were towed from the scene. As part of the investigation, the Mazda will undergo a full mechanical inspection.
