Worcester Man Cited Following Serious Belmont Street Crash That Injured Woman

A 45-year-old woman was seriously injured after a 2010 Hino commercial truck, driven by a 20-year-old Worcester man, slammed into the rear of her car on Belmont Street on Saturday, June 25, causing injuries to her back, neck and shoulder. Her injuries are not life threatening.
The operator of the truck was reaching for his water bottle when the crash happened.
He was cited for negligent operation so as to endanger, speed greater than reasonable and proper, failure to use care in stopping and inattentive driving.
The Incident
On Saturday, June 25 at approximately 5:49 a.m., Worcester police responded to a serious two car collision at the location of 426 Belmont Street.
Upon arrival, Officers observed a 2013 Toyota Venza with extensive rear end damage
The 45-year-old female operator was trapped inside the vehicle. Worcester fire and Worcester EMS personnel responded to the scene and extracted the female from the Toyota.
She was transported to the hospital for treatment, suffering from neck, back and shoulder injuries. Her current condition is not known but it appears that her injuries are not life threatening.
Investigators spoke with the 20-year-old male driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash. The driver was operating a 2010 Hino commercial truck.
The truck is owned by Ashdevaly Logistics located in Ware, MA. The operator is a Worcester resident.
He informed the the investigators that was traveling eastbound on Belmont Street when he dropped his water bottle. He attempted to retrieve it when the collision happened.
The Toyota was stopped at a red light on Belmont Street. The Toyota was in the middle lane heading westbound. The truck slammed into the rear of the Toyota. The force of the impact sent the Toyota 153 feet throughout the intersection. The truck skidded approximately 37 feet prior to the collision.
