The Worcester man charged with throwing a seven-year-old girl off a bridge over Lake Quinsigamond bridge in August of 2017 has been indicted.
According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr, Joshua Hubert, 36, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and single counts of kidnapping a child under 16 and strangulation or suffocation.
Hubert is being held on $2 million bail after being arraigned on kidnapping and attempted murder charges in district court.
He will be arraigned on Monday in Worcester Superior court.
The Incident
Early said that Mr. Hubert was a friend of members of the victim’s family and was at a cookout with them on August 26. He allegedly put the girl in his car in the early hours of August 27, strangled her and threw her off the I-290 bridge over Lake Quinsigamond.
The girl survived the fall, swam to shore and sought help at a nearby home on the Shrewsbury side of the lake. That set off an investigation by Shrewsbury and Worcester Police as well as the State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
The girl suffered visible, but not life-threatening, injuries.
