The Incident

Trooper Daniel Pelletier and his field training officer, Trooper Sergio Figueiredo, were patrolling Rote 84 eastbound in Sturbridge when they observed a white Toyota Avalon being driven erratically.

Troopers followed the vehicle as it exited the highway and observed it enter the parking lot of a Friendly's restaurant.

A second vehicle, a white Nissan Altima, arrived in the parking lot, and its occupants appeared to interact with occupants of the Avalon. The Avalon then left the parking lot, and Trooper Figueiredo conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.

The trooper identified the operator as Joseph Morales and the Passenger as Fernando Negron, both of New Jersey. A further investigation saw officers seize various pieces of narcotics paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Sturbridge Police Officer Symanski, who responded to assist, investigated the occupants of the Altima. The operator, Michele DeLeo of Worcester claimed to not know the man who was sitting in the back of her vehicle. The man was identified as Elias Abreu of New Jersey.

Abreu had been a passenger in the Avalon but entered DeLeo's vehicle with a duffel bag before the Avalon left the parking lot. Further investigation by Sturbridge officers yielded various containers of pills, power lie substances, and green vegetable matter that appeared to be marijuana.

DeLeo will be summonsed to court while the three men were arrested and transported to the State Police barracks in Sturbridge for booking.
