The
Holy Cross Crusaders men’s basketball shot 46% from the field, but fell 71-65 to Siena on Friday night.
The Crusaders were without head coach Bill Carmody, who missed the game to attend to a family matter, according to the school.
The loss drops Holy Cross to 3-8 on the season, while Siena improves to 4-9 overall.
Holy Cross' Rally Falls Short
After trailing 40-33 at the half, the Crusaders cut their deficit to three, 52-49, with 11 minutes left to play.
From that point, Siena would go on a 10-1 run over the next three minutes to take a 62-50 lead with eight minutes left. It was their largest lead of the game.
Holy Cross got no closer than four points the rest of the way as the Saints knocked down five of their seven free throws in the final minute.
The Crusaders were led by Patrick Benzan, who netted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Freshman Connor Niego added 11 points.
