Holy Cross Football Pitches First Shut Out Since 2015, Beats Bucknell 20-0

The last time the Crusaders pitched a shutout came on October 24, 2015, when they beat Lafayette 42-0.
“I thought our defense played very well throughout the game, we had a couple missed tackles and a couple of mistakes, but I thought they played well. Our offense did what they needed to do, we made more mistakes on that side of the ball. Just some things we have to improve on for next week,” said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore after the game.
With the win, Holy Cross improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot league.
Crusaders Pitch Shutout
The Crusaders defense jump started their offense, forcing three turnovers in the first half to set up Holy Cross in good field position.
Holy Cross’ running back Diquan Walker put the Crusaders on the board with a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 before kicker A.J. Wells nailed a pair of field goals to give Holy Cross a 13-0 lead at the half.
Walker would add another 2-yard touchdown run int he third quarter to give Holy Cross a 20-0 lead.
The Holy Cross defense gave up only 214 yards of total offense. That is the fewest yards that Holy Cross has given up since November of 2015 when they gave up 213 yards to Georgetown.
Holy Cross quarterback Peter Pujals completed 16 of 33 passes for 178 yards in the game.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, September 16 when they host New Hampshire.
Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
